Airtel and VETA conducts seminar for youth in Dar

Airtel Tanzania in partnership with Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) have partnered to offer vocational training to youth in Dar es Salaam aimed to equip them with experience on employment or self-employed.

The youth have also got an experience to know of the e-learning programme which is offered through VSOMO application which enables students to get studies through their mobile phones.

Speaking today in Dar es Salaam after the seminar, Airtel Tanzania Project Manager Jane Matinde said that Airtel and VETA has decided to host the seminar as it is an important way for the youth to get opportunity to employ themselves after getting vocational studies through VSOMO. ‘So far we have over 30,000 studies who have been able to register for VSOMO and 9,000 out of that number have registered for the studies but the number of studies who have managed to get certificates is very low. That is one of the main reason that has made us to host this seminar so that we can raise the awareness for Tanzanians to make use of the new technology to get studies from anywhere through their smartphones. ‘We call upon the youth in the country to use this opportunity of the VSOMO application and register for various courses offered. Each course is 120,000/- and a student is issued with certificate after completion of the course.

To his part, Magilatech Company Ltd Director General Godfrey Magila said that technology is advancing so fast and it is important to use Techno in order to work successful in business, agriculture, education and so on. ‘For all those benefits that is why we have decided to come up with VSOMO application which is the first of its kind to offer studies through mobie phones’, added Magila.

Speaking at the same event, VSOMO VETA Project Manager Charles Mapuli said that partnership between Airtel and VETA will expand the reach to studies willing to take vocational training. ‘I want to assure you that studies offered through VSOMO have been permitted by VETA and it is good to understand that the studies meet standards set by VETA.

Our aim is to make sure that every Tanzania gets an opportunity to get vocational skills so that they can be able to get employment or employ themselves.

VSOMO is an e-learning programme offering vocational training skills through mobile phones. Some of the courses  offered through VSOMO are Cake Baking and Decoration, Catering and Food Service Techniques, PC Maintenance, Industrial Electrical Installation, Domestic Plumbing and Auto-electric.
