- Timiza Vikoba a quick solution for women Vicoba groups to acquire loans
- Set to roll out countrywide
Airtel Timiza Vikoba project has continued to be the best solution so far especially for most groups that want to save and acquire small loans to run their businesses.
This comes in the wake of most groups opting to use the Airtel Timiza Vikoba service which has helped them to be more organized in terms of their operations at a time when the government is also advocating for an increase in the Vikoba network around the country to ensure more small scale business people benefit.
Recently, while launching a Vikoba project at Bunju in Dar es Salaam, the Kinondoni District Commissioner, Ally Hapi called on Vikoba leaders to ensure they expand their networks so that more people can benefit from this service to improve their businesses.
“Am calling on Vikoba leaders to ensure they expand their network all over the country so that more business people can benefit,” said the DC.
Airtel Timiza Vikoba service is now the talk in town as Airtel teamed up with Maendeleo Bank to ensure more Vikoba groups become formal and operate in a more organized way.
“So far since this project was launched a total of 487 loans worth tsh 20.5 million have been disbursed to different Vikoba members,” said Maendeleo Bank Managing Director Ibrahim Mwangalaba.
He said cumulatively 5,685 unique customers have joined and created groups with 1,810 new accounts opened at Maendeleo Bank and appealed to more members to use the Timiza Vikoba service as it has proved to be the best solution for the well-being of their groups.
Since the launch, Mwangalaba says 18,166 unique groups have started their registration on the system with a potential of 178,638 group members.
Airtel Tanzania Marketing Director Isack Nchunda Said they were proud to be seen as a solution to the Vikoba problems that most groups were experiencing and their focus is to ensure the government’s target to have more parts of the country covered by Vikoba is well achieved.
“Most groups were struggling to keep records in books and at times they lose them and cannot keep track of their balances, some kept money in boxes, others under mattresses and so on but with Airtel Timiza Vikoba all this has changed as all savings are kept in Airtel Money where all members can trace the balances,” he said adding that only the chairman has the password but members receive updates.
‘“We are happy to see this great response which indicates that our customers are pleased with this innovative service that is aimed at enhancing and simplifying transaction activities for Vikoba groups of between 5 and 100 members’, added Nchunda.
He said this has enhanced a lot of transparency among Vikoba groups and that Airtel will continue opening more doors to ensure more people especially small scale businesses get proper financial services in their groups.
Airtel Timiza Vikoba was launched with the aim of helping groups realize their dreams in a more effective way.
